What they didn’t teach us in school

Formal education takes up almost half our lives. It is the inevitable rule of life to be enrolled into a school or nursery as soon as we show some capability of being able to speak.

The next thing that we begin to learn is that you are supposed to excel academically and that’s almost synonymous with success.

We all are part of the rat race to be the first one in class, our minds are conditioned in a way to make us believe that the one who is first will be a successful person.
This rule has pervaded all of humanity irrespective of race, gender, psychographical or physiographic differences.

Towards the end of school as we progress into the real world we realise that what we actually learnt during our primary education , the theoretical knowledge I mean, we don’t remember more than 10% of that. Then we have a choice to move into our field of interest and spend the rest of our lives pursuing the dream career.

I think of it as a strange logic of learning things that may or may not have not much value, for 12 long years of my life, and then choosing what interests me only to realize, it’s not what I learn that matters but how I’m actually supposed to apply that knowledge in my life does. So who is responsible for teaching me to do that?

I don’t mean to completely shun the concept of formal education in the society, but its a matter of thought that what needs to be really taught is fathom focused upon. ‘The balance of knowledge and wisdom.’

Just because something has been done for many years doesn’t mean that it’s the right thing to do.

Why aren’t students taught on how to deal with life and on forming and maintaining relationships with other humans, something that they will be doing for the rest of their lives?
Why aren’t they taught respect and tolerance for every religion so that they can never be brainwashed into killing for religion?
Why isn’t the presence of spirit or the basic fundamentals of humanism taught to them?
Why aren’t they taught how to lead a good life, and how problems are inevitable and failures are bound to happen but real victory is getting up and trying again?
Why aren’t they taught of the real problems that surround the world and how they can be a great part to make a difference to it? Why isn’t everyone aware of the fact that exercise and a balanced diet are the basis of a healthy life?

We mug up numerous books in our lifetime but why does a one-liner that we read maybe on some networking site seem to hit us right? Because we can ‘ relate’ to it, it holds relevance in our lives and we may actually be helped with that information.

The world helps us establish professional lives that is the reason that we are progressing scientifically and technologically, but what is going to reduce the number of let’s say cases of domestic violence, divorces, depression and suicides?

The concept of Emotional Intelligence quotient came up much after the concept of Intelligence quotient. This is just proof that humans have forgotten what really makes them human.

The major epidemic that the world faces is not diabetes or HIV, but the disease of wrong conditioning.

And the world has failed to address these core issues that accentuate diseases like terrorism, violence, etc.

What we really need is a system that can simplify life for everyone. To make students realise that before they compete with anyone else they need to tap into their inner potential. And how to use that potential to the best of their ability to lead a successful life.

Parents hold a major role in the correct conditioning of a child.

The brain progresses more than 90% by the age of 5 years. These five years are the crucial years wherein parents can lead by example and help the child create a basis for his or her personality by creating an environment that is going to benefit the child in the long run. By not resorting to any behavior that they wouldn’t want their child to possess in their future life.

The promotion of the true and natural values of loving kindness, gratitude, self esteem, tolerance and respect is the need of the hour.
To realise that we all are ONE, and that by putting someone else down no one can ever really escalate their position. Simple qualities like appreciation and gratitude have a great impact on the human mind and its progress and are qualities of truly successful people.

The difference between ‘living’ and merely ‘existing’ needs to be taught, the importance of every moment and the value of the life each and every living being needs to be taught. And it’s never too late to learn, you could stop right now look back and ask yourself “How have I made a difference to my own life and my loved ones?” and ” when did I really live last time?”, the answer is already within you.

Only love can drive out hatred,
like only light can dispel darkness..
